Ford EcoSport is a compact urban crossover that first debuted on the world stage back in 2003. Since then, the crossover has managed to change the second generation, which was officially presented in the winter of 2012, and impose a serious struggle on its main competitors in the face of Nissan Juke, Peugeot 2008 and Renault Duster.

The car reached the Russian market only in 2014, where it received a warm welcome and became one of the best-selling models in its class. The reason for the success of the Ford EcoSport in the Russian Federation was its attractive and modern appearance, high-quality interior, rich equipment and, of course, low cost.

In the fall of 2017, Ford management presented an updated European version of the Ford EcoSport, which received a number of visual and internal differences, as well as a special ST-Line sports package, which gave the car an even more dynamic and sporty look.

It should be noted right away that the appearance of the updated European version is not much different from its global counterpart.

Frontal part the body has acquired a new, more aggressive head optics and small strips of LED DRLs, a larger and slightly raised false radiator grille and a spectacular front bumper, represented by a wide air intake and a pair of original foglights.

It is also worth mentioning that the ST-Line version differs from the usual EcoSport by the presence of several modified bumpers, a sports body kit around the perimeter and a special design of R17 alloy wheels.

Crossover profile has done without changes and, as before, pleases the eye with pumped wheel arches, a window line rising to the stern and front pillars heavily piled back, giving the car a more sporty look.

Stern Ford EcoSport, following the front end of the body, has undergone a noticeable update - from now on, the tailgate does not open up, but to the left, and the rear dimensions have received a more modern appearance and content. It is also worth recalling that in the first generation of the crossover, the spare wheel was attached to the tailgate, while in the second generation of the model, the spare wheel is located underground in the luggage compartment.

The novelty has the following dimensions:

  • Length - 4,096 m;
  • Width - 1,765 m (including external mirrors - 2,057 m);
  • Height - 1.653 m.


According to the passport data, the length of the wheelbase reaches 2,519 m, and the ground clearance height is 200 mm, which makes it easy to drive onto curbs and play over speed bumps.

Potential owners can choose from 12 body color options, with the ST-Line version additionally offering the option of choosing a contrast roof. In addition, there is a choice between 5 options for the external design of the rims, which opens up impressive possibilities for personalizing the exterior.

The interior of the updated Ford EcoSport ST-Line meets with a higher quality assembly and improved finishing materials. In front of the driver, the manufacturer placed a stylish and functional three-spoke steering wheel, as well as an extremely informative instrument cluster, represented by several analog dials and a fairly large LCD display of the trip computer.

The dominant place on the central dashboard is reserved for a 6.5 or 8-inch monitor of the multimedia complex, directly under which there are 5 mechanical buttons for the audio system and a pair of functional knobs that are responsible for adjusting the volume and radio waves. This is followed by a large block of stylish air ducts and interior climate control buttons, which are highly informative and original design.

Front seats guarantee a comfortable fit for people of any body size, and also please with the presence of good lateral support and a sufficient number of adjustments.

A distinctive feature of the ST-Line package is the presence of a combined seat trim with bright red stitching, a leather steering wheel braid (there is also a red stitching), as well as aluminum pedal pads.


A massive armrest is installed between the seats of the first row, as well as a pair of cup holders and a parking brake handle.

Rear sofa also has a hospitable profile and can accommodate 3 adult passengers, and even the central third rider will be quite comfortable due to the sufficient width and the practically absent transmission tunnel.

Trunk volume, in comparison with the first generation of the crossover, has decreased by 21 liters and is now 334 liters. However, the manufacturer has provided a mechanism for folding the second row of seats, which allows you to significantly increase the volume of the luggage compartment and, what is important, to get an almost perfectly flat floor. A pleasant bonus is the presence of a spare wheel and a repair kit located under the raised floor. Separate attention deserves the fact that in the cabin of the new Ford EcoSport ST-Line 2018, the manufacturer has placed about 20 niches and containers for storing various small things, which can undoubtedly be attributed to the key advantages of the interior.

The engine range has been expanded with a new 1.5-liter EcoBlue diesel engine of the latest generation, producing 125 "horses" and 300 Nm of peak torque. With it, the crossover accelerates to hundreds in just over 12 seconds. and allows a consumption of about 4.5 l / 100 km in the combined driving mode. A couple of such an engine can be both a new 6-speed "mechanics" and an "automatic" gearbox with the same number of gears.

It is noteworthy that the manufacturer has retained its predecessor's motor range, represented by:

  1. 1-liter gasoline engine of the EcoBoost series, generating 125 or 140 hp, as well as having the following dynamic indicators: acceleration from 0 to 100 - in 12.7 and 11.8 seconds. for versions with manual transmission, as well as average fuel consumption, ranging from 5.2 to 5.8 liters. The maximum speed, regardless of the power of the power plant, is 179 km / h.
  2. 1.5-liter TDCi diesel, the output of which has been increased to 100 hp. (formerly 95 hp) and 200 Nm of peak torque. With it, the car allows you to consume about 4.7 l / 100 km in a combined driving cycle, as well as accelerate to a maximum speed of 168 km / h.


All engines, with the exception of the new 125-horsepower diesel engine, which has the ability to install an all-wheel drive transmission, are equipped with a front-wheel drive system.

At the heart of the updated Ford EcoSport is the proven and well-proven B2E bogie, which assumes the installation of the following suspensions: on the front axle - independent with MacPherson struts, and on the rear - an independent H-beam (front-wheel drive versions) and a multi-link (version with all-wheel drive).

It is worth noting that the all-wheel drive system is implemented by means of an interaxle magnetic clutch and the possibility of forced locking of the rear wheels.


The rack and pinion steering received an electric booster with a variable gear ratio, and the braking system is represented by front disc and rear drum brakes (optionally also disc).

Safety of the new 2018 Ford EcoSport ST-Line

The manufacturer notes that the new EcoSport 2018 received a new roll cage, made using modern and more durable steel, which has a positive impact on the safety and rigidity of the body.

The list of security systems has been replenished with new options and is now presented:

  • Electronic stabilization system;
  • An assistant when starting on a slope;
  • Rain and lighting sensors;
  • Cruise control with the ability to limit the speed;

Despite the impressive list of equipment, the novelty received a lower rating in the Euro NCAP crash tests, losing to most competitors (with the exception of Renault Duster).

In the European market, Ford EcoSport is presented in several versions, including the new ST-Line package, for which a potential buyer will have to fork out at least 20.3 thousand pounds (approximately 1.6 million rubles).

Unfortunately, now there is no exact information when the new product will be available on the Russian market, but even after the appearance, the car will be available only with the same engines.

Conclusion

The updated Ford EcoSport ST-Line 2018 was and remains one of the most interesting proposals in the class, both in terms of cost and interior filling. This is a car that combines the capabilities of an SUV, the handling of a passenger car and the economy of A-class cars, which is especially important in the face of constantly rising fuel prices.
