The results of the first half of 2017 pleased us with a significant increase in sales volume - by 15% compared to last year. Although analysts predicted a similar situation, many dealers were simply afraid to believe in good things against the backdrop of the recent crisis and years of decline.

Practically all major world leaders started to grow: Subaru sales increased by a quarter, Peugeot - by more than half, and Volvo showed a fantastic result of 130%. Against their background, the problems of such large market participants as Lexus, whose sales are still 20% lower than expected and 17% lower from Audi, are surprising.

Let's take a closer look at what happened in the automotive market over the past 6 months of 2017.

Rating of cars sold in the first half of the year

1. Kia Rio

This brand confidently continues to hold the leadership in the Russian automotive market, which is especially surprising on the eve of the release of the second generation of the car. Traditionally, the demand for the current model in such cases begins to fall rapidly, which is not observed in the context of the Kia Rio, so beloved by Russian motorists.

The car was first presented to the public in September 2017 at the French Motor Show. The five-door hatchback looks more premium than its fellow Solaris with improved trim, increased noise isolation, plastic body kit, 180-horsepower engine, increased ground clearance and a multimedia system that supports Android Auto and Apple Car Play as an option.

Even the basic version of the Kia Rio provides a full level of comfort: power windows with a heating system on all windows, front airbags, on-board computer, power steering, remote central locking, stabilization system.

What else can this car boast of? An increased wheelbase that adds more comfort to rear row passengers, a solid design, high-quality finishing materials, improved noise insulation, a lighter body that gives better dynamics and fuel economy, a convenient touch screen. The model is supplied to Russia with 1.4 and 1.6-liter gasoline engines with a capacity of 107 and 123 horsepower, respectively, and paired with a 6-speed transmission.

2. Lada Granta

Interest in the domestic auto industry continues to grow steadily. The front-wheel drive car, produced since 2011 on the basis of Lada Kalina, has a sedan, liftback and hatchback body. All equipment is equipped with 1.6-liter engines with 5-speed transmissions 87, 98, 106 and 114-horsepower, which consume about 6 liters in urban and up to 7 liters in mixed mode. The most powerful of them is capable of speeds up to 169 km / h.

The model with an 8-valve 87-horsepower engine is equipped with ABS, airbags and audio preparation, and for an additional fee, you can get front windows, power steering, air conditioning and heated mirrors. More expensive versions of Comfort and Luxe have heated front seats and electrically adjustable mirrors, as well as climate control, alloy wheels and heated windshield, respectively.

The model with a 16-valve 98-horsepower engine is paired only with a 4-speed automatic transmission, and a 106-horsepower engine can be optionally supplemented with a robotic 5-speed gearbox.

3. Lada Vesta

Due to the variety of its modifications, this car is especially loved by motorists who can choose a model for themselves according to the level of requests and wallet.

Due to its size, Vesta is somewhere in the middle between class B and C, surpassing the dimensions of its direct competitor Hyundai Solaris. The greater ground clearance in comparison with any foreign car makes the car very passable and confident on country roads, which is so important for villagers and fans of out-of-town recreation. And the 480-liter trunk and 487-kilogram payload allow the whole family to go on vacation with a lot of luggage.

Engines are presented in three variations:

  • 1.6-liter 87-horsepower with a VAZ 21116 index;
  • 1.6-liter 106-horsepower with the VAZ 21127 index;
  • 1.6-liter 114-horsepower from Alliance Renault Nissan.

Objectively speaking, all these engines are identical in volume, number of cylinders, and fuel injection system. The only difference is the number of valves, some settings and technical features. The undoubted advantage is the duration of the production of these motors, brought to automaticity, therefore their reliability has been tested over the years.

The main transmission is a 5-speed "mechanics", already known for use on other VAZ models. In its latest version, it is supplemented with German and Japanese details, absorbs less oil, got rid of vibration and, in general, became softer and more comfortable.

Vesta will not get an automatic box in its classical sense, stopping at a cheaper "robot". The manufacturer also promises to soon acquire a CVT borrowed from the Nissan Tiida.

4. Hyundai Solaris

Although the car has lost the prize-winning line, it is still dearly loved by the Russians. Immediately after its presentation in 2009, the high quality of the Korean assembly was noted at a more than democratic cost, reliability and economy. And since 2011, the car has been the indisputable leader of the domestic car market.

Solaris owes its modern dynamic exterior to its sleek body, distinctive grille and L-shaped headlights.

The ergonomic driver's seat eliminates discomfort in the back and neck, and is adjustable in tilt and height, although the plastic and upholstery could have looked better.

There is enough space in the luggage compartment for 370 liters to transport bulky things, but the 160 mm ground clearance is not very suitable for Russian off-road or winter snowfall.

Front-wheel drive Solaris comes to Russia with eco-friendly 1.4 and 1.6 liter gasoline engines with 107 and 123 "horses", respectively. Also, the car enthusiast is offered a choice between a 5-speed "mechanics" or a 4-speed "automatic".

The most budgetary equipment has airbags, air ducts for heating the legs, heated seats and rear window, power windows, power steering, 4 speakers.

5. Hyundai Creta

The subcompact SUV, which was released in 2015, is an analogue of the Hyundai ix25 aimed at the Chinese market. The worldwide popularity of the model is due to the excellent balance of price and equipment. Russian motorists were able to test a car produced at the St. Petersburg plant in 2016, which is available only with 1.6 and 2 liter gasoline engines.

The starting modification offers a 1.6-liter 123-horsepower engine, front-wheel drive, 6-speed manual transmission, 16-inch steel wheels, power windows, audio system with Bluetooth, ABS + EBD + ESC stabilization system.

The following equipment is already equipped with an automatic transmission, air conditioning, heated mirrors and front seats, and the Active version provided a Winter package with a heated leather steering wheel and heated rear seats.

The 2-liter engine already has 149.6 horses and is equipped with an automatic transmission. Such a car has a front-wheel drive version with a semi-independent suspension and an all-wheel drive with a multi-link independent.

6. VW Polo

This "German" has already celebrated its fortieth anniversary and changed five generations, but still attracts the attention of motorists. In the body of a sedan, the car was specially designed for Russia, while a hatchback is more popular abroad. The advantage of the "Russian" version is its greater adaptation to the climate, the quality of gasoline and the state of the roads, which makes the car more reliable, durable and passable.

Volkswagen Polo features a spacious interior, a galvanized body with a 12-year corrosion guarantee and a rear suspension. The engine choice is not great - two units of 1.6 liters 85 and 105-horsepower with a 5-speed "mechanics" and a 6-speed "automatic", which is being developed by the world's leading manufacturer Aisin. The model uses gasoline quite sparingly: 8.7 liters in the city on the “mechanics” and 5.4 liters on the “automatic”.

7. Renault Duster

This car in its latest version can be called a sports crossover with a station wagon body. In the Russian car market, it is available with all-wheel and front-wheel drive, with two gasoline and one diesel engines. Each of them fully complies with environmental standards and is equipped with an Eco mode.

The automatic transmission went only to the 2-liter 143-horsepower engine, while the 1.6-liter 114-horsepower and the turbocharged 109-horsepower are content with the classic "mechanics". Fuel consumption for gasoline engines is fixed in the amount of 7.4 - 8.7 liters, diesel consumes about 5.3 liters.

The average equipment, estimated at 770 thousand rubles, has air conditioning, heated mirrors with an electric drive, and a proprietary audio system. The luggage compartment has a capacity of 408 liters and has a spare wheel hidden under the floor.

8. Lada XRAY

The new domestic crossover is based on the Renault Sandero Stepway. With its "donor" the car has in common ground clearance and technical characteristics of the transmission. But the wheelbase and overall dimensions of the Lada are increased, which creates more freedom in the cabin and gives the trunk a volume of 361 liters.

The starting equipment assumes the presence of an audio system with Bluetooth function, only front power windows, 2 airbags, a stabilization system and communication with ERA-GLONASS. The next version is equipped with air conditioning, heated front seats, a navigator, rear power windows, parking sensors and fog lights.

The range of engines is similar for Lada XRAY and Sandero Stepway: a 1.6-liter 102-horsepower gasoline engine, accelerating to a hundred in 11.9 seconds, and a Japanese-French 1.6-liter 110-horsepower with reduced fuel consumption, making your hundred in 10.3 seconds.

9. Toyota RAV4

The once wildly popular "Japanese" has gone through another restyling. Externally, he acquired a new grille, headlights, bumpers and decorative sills, becoming more masculine and aggressive. The interior has also become sportier, with the speedometer and tachometer taking center stage and the latest on-board computer with a trendy reddish backlight.

The engine row remained the same, but in the new version the suspension was modified for a more sporty way for the possibility of active driving.

RAV 4 can hardly be called an economical model - a 2-liter engine spends about 10 liters in city mode. The most dynamic were front-wheel drive cars with a manual transmission, which accelerate to a hundred in 10.2 seconds. But all-wheel drive covers the same distance in just 11.3 seconds.

In Russia, the car is now presented in 6 trim levels, the prices for which vary not only on the number of additional options, but also on the installed engine and gearbox.

10. Chevrolet Niva

The new SUV pleasantly surprised us with its original design reminiscent of American style. An attractive body, roof rails, a light bar, sloped bumpers make the image complete and thoughtful.

The model is equipped with a rather impressive 1.8-liter 135-horsepower engine with 5-speed "mechanics", which was first installed on a VAZ car. The SUV has four-wheel drive, dependent rear suspension and McPherson struts. All this makes it much more powerful than its predecessors, more controllable and maneuverable.

The manufacturer also worked hard on the interior, which acquired a fashionable console with convenient functionality, a multimedia system, electric glass and competent noise insulation. And the premium modification even boasts an imitation leather finish.
